About the Journal
Brain Aging International Journal® (BAIJ) is an international, open access, double-blind, peer-reviewed journal established in 2001, published semiannually by Ana Aslan International Academy of Ageing (Fundatia Ana Aslan International).
Our mission is to share cutting-edge basic, translational, clinical, populational science amongst leading multidisciplinary scholars, researchers and clinicians to better understand brain aging, our end-goal being to create the adequate framework for ending neurocognitive disorders and to favor healthy brain aging.
Additional (supplement) issues may be published at our own discretion on specific topics.
BAIJ welcomes original papers including (but not limited to) the following hot topics and keywords:
- Basic research, including behavioral, genetic, molecular biology, new biomarkers (including imaging), pharmacology, , geriatric care, cognitive neurosciences (including neuropsychiatry, neurology, neuropathology, psychiatry and old age psychiatry), immune and inflammatory research, metabolic pathways, microbiota, translational/integrative multidisciplinary papers related to understanding etiology, risk factors, early detection, health economics and public health policies, epidemiology, newly emerging technologies, digital tools, AI systems, big data and machine learning in service of brain health prevention and longevity medicine;
- Clinical, diagnostics, uniform testing research (including localization, scale translation and validation, uniformity of assessments), nursing research, development and support, social support (including formal and informal caregivers), risk assessment, prevention;
- Pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies, DMD (disease modifying drugs) and DMI (disease modifying interventions) for preventing, limiting and/or curing vascular disease (including small vessel disease, risk factors, brain-blood barrier), frailty (frailty assessment, intrinsic capacity, epigenetics involved in frailty), neurocognitive disorders, dementia (Alzheimer’s, Lewy bodies, early onset dementia, cognitive impairment) and normal / pathological brain aging.
Note/Erratum:
Ana Aslan International Academy of Ageing temporarily paused the publishing of BAIJ starting with 2006 and later on in 2009. The production teams decided in error, at that time, to restart volume numbering both in 2007 and in 2022, hence BAIJ volume numbering does not reflect the true heritage of the journal and mismatch the proper volume numbering practices, which should be as follows:
Volume I – year 2001
Volume II – year 2002
Volume III – year 2003
Volume IV – year 2004
Volume V – year 2005
Volume VI – year 2007
Volume VII – year 2008
Volume VIII – year 2022
Volume IX – year 2023
